What Is Salvation? From What Do Human Beings Need to Be Saved?

Salvation is the process through which human beings are delivered from sin, suffering, ignorance, nothingness, or brokenness and restored to wholeness. It is a religious concept, but also an existential one.

Salvation matters because it responds to basic human distress. People fail, suffer, lose meaning, and often feel unable to repair themselves by willpower alone. Religious traditions connect salvation with God, grace, practice, or enlightenment. Secular thought may seek salvation in revolution, art, love, or self-transformation. Philosophy asks whether human beings truly need salvation, or whether salvation is an imagined compensation for vulnerability. Modern society emphasizes self-management, yet remains full of anxiety and collapse. The question of salvation asks whether human beings can be renewed at the root.
