What Is Logic? Why Does Correct Thinking Need Rules?

Logic is the study of valid forms of reasoning. It asks whether the relation between premises and conclusion is reliable, not whether the conclusion is attractive.

Logic matters because human beings are often misled by surface persuasiveness. An argument may sound powerful without being valid. A common example is "many people believe it, therefore it is true," which is a fallacy. In philosophy, logic is both a tool of reasoning and a foundation for understanding language, mathematics, and computation. In modern society, advertising, political messaging, and social media often exploit logical weaknesses to produce emotional reactions. AI and programming also depend on formal logic and computational structures. Logic cannot decide every value question, but it helps us avoid confused reasoning.
