Evidence is what supports or challenges a judgment. It may include observation, data, documents, testimony, experimental results, or logical inference.
Evidence matters because it separates judgment from mere opinion. A person may feel that something is true, but without evidence that feeling cannot easily become a basis for public reasoning. Philosophy asks what counts as good evidence, whether evidence can be neutral, and why the same evidence can lead to different interpretations. Modern society is full of information, but information is not automatically evidence. Screenshots, videos, statistics, and AI-generated content can all mislead. Evidence requires us to ask not only what we see, but how it was produced, interpreted, and verified.
