Experience is the knowledge or awareness gained through perception, action, memory, and lived events. Seeing colors, hearing sounds, failing at something, and learning a skill all belong to experience.
Experience matters because knowledge is not only abstract reasoning. Science depends on observation and experiment, and personal judgment depends on lived encounters. Yet experience is not the same as truth. A person's experience may be limited, biased, or misinterpreted. Philosophy asks whether knowledge comes mainly from experience, or whether it also requires innate structures, rational principles, and conceptual frameworks. In the age of AI and big data, a new question appears: if a machine learns patterns from massive data, does it have experience? Experience reminds us that knowing the world requires both contact with reality and the ability to interpret it.
