What Is Reason? Why Do Human Beings Think and Act with Reasons?

Reason is the human capacity to judge and act according to reasons, evidence, and logic. It allows us to ask not only what we want, but why we should believe or do something.

Reason matters because knowledge, science, ethics, and public discussion all depend on it. When you compare two choices and consider their consequences instead of acting only from impulse, you are using reason. The philosophical debate is whether reason is a universal and reliable faculty, or whether it is also shaped by culture, emotion, embodiment, and power. In the modern world, reason is especially important because information overload, algorithms, and emotional media can weaken judgment. Reason does not require the absence of feeling; it asks feeling and action to become more reflective.
