What Is Eternity? Is Eternity Endless Time?

Eternity usually refers to a state of existence beyond temporal limitation or without end. It can be understood as endlessly extended time, or as something beyond time itself.

Eternity matters because it responds to anxiety about finitude. Human beings die and things disappear, so we imagine something unchanging, lasting, or ultimate. In religion, eternity is often connected with God, the soul, and the afterlife. In philosophy, Plato's Forms, mathematical truths, and some values are often treated as close to eternal. Modern society pursues speed and constant renewal, yet it also seeks continuation through archives, digital storage, and memorial practices. The question of eternity asks whether humans truly desire endless time, or a meaning that cannot be destroyed by passing time.
