D55(20250806)Australia road trip: Wave Rock

Today I’m going to see the famous wave rock in Hyden.

I had originally planned to visit Wave Rock today, stay overnight, and return tomorrow. However, once I arrived, it only took an hour to explore the area. The facilities were quite basic, so by 3 PM I decided to head straight back to Perth.

Just after sunset, I approached the city and stopped on the hills overlooking Perth. The city lights against the twilight sky were absolutely stunning! Unfortunately, the road was narrow and unlit, making it hard to stop for photos—so I had to preserve the beautiful view only in my memory. Coincidentally, the song City Moonlight was playing in the car. Loneliness is not a negative word—Perth is often called the most isolated city in the world. The Blue Moon Valley described in Lost Horizon is another example of a lonely Shangri-La.

I drove nearly 700 kilometers today, and I wasn’t tired at all. The scenery along the way was simply breathtaking—endless fields of canola and wheat, towering trees, and leisurely grazing cattle and sheep. The southwestern corner of Australia is truly a fertile land.
