What Is Method? Why Does Thinking Need a Repeatable Path?

Method is an ordered path used to gain knowledge, solve problems, or achieve a goal. It prevents thinking and action from depending entirely on intuition and chance.

Method matters because equally intelligent people may reach very different results if they use different methods. Scientific experiment, logical reasoning, textual interpretation, social research, and engineering design all have their own methods. Philosophy asks whether one universal method applies to all knowledge, or whether different fields require different methods. In modern society, method is often reduced to procedure and template. But genuine method is not mechanical steps; it is a rational structure that can revise its path according to the problem. Method reminds us that good results often come from processes that can be inspected, repeated, and improved.
