“The believing brain”
When people are hungry, they often mistake certain distant objects for food; but once they are full, they no longer have that impression when looking at the same things. This shows that human perception is strongly influenced by desire.
The book The Believing Brain explores in depth how the human brain receives information, constructs models, and applies those models.
The more I read, the more I realize that humans are actually very similar to animals—only that most people overestimate their intelligence. This is not an insult, but a fact: due to limited intelligence, many people are even less capable than animals. Once humans fall into stupidity, the mistakes they make are far more severe than those of animals.
In the animal kingdom, survival of the fittest and natural selection prevail. In contrast, humans often indulge in various “-isms”: such as celibacy, communism, McKinseyism, consumerism… These ideologies sometimes do not elevate humanity but instead erode our instincts and rationality, ultimately stripping us of our natural essence.
