Before leaving Darwin, I visited the Crocosaurus Cove in the morning, then went to Coles to buy a roast chicken, some vegetables, and strawberries. I headed to the seaside to eat and rest. The scene before me stirred a deep, inexplicable emotion.
For some reason, I seemed to hear the song “Under the Olive Tree” echoing in my ears.
Composer Denise Young graduated with a degree in music therapy and has a background in psychology. She is an independent producer, composer, and pianist who continually explores how music can reach emotions and heal the soul.
When we fix our career aspirations solely on Silicon Valley or Wall Street, or take pride in the towering skyscrapers of megacities, we may have already forgotten how the world truly operates. Of course, I’m not opposed to young people riding the waves and standing at the forefront of the times. What I want to emphasize is: don’t forget these fundamental philosophies of life.
Some may believe that the teachings of Indigenous scholars or the older generation are outdated and irrelevant. In fact, the opposite is true. Not only do they grasp the essence of traditional culture, but they also have a deep understanding of cutting-edge neuroscience, chaos theory, quantum mechanics, and the principles of machine learning in artificial intelligence. It’s not that they are falling behind the times — it’s that they disdain the shallowness of the times.
