“You Beauty!” Means “That’s Great!”

“You Beauty!” Means “That’s Great!”

“You beauty!” is an excited reaction to good news, a score in sport or something finally working out. It is close to “That’s great!” or “Brilliant!” and is not a literal compliment about someone’s appearance. The you may refer to the person who produced the result, but the phrase can also celebrate the whole situation.

It is enthusiastic and informal, sounding natural in Australian sport and everyday conversation but out of place in a formal report. For example: A: We got the tickets. B: You beauty! Americans will usually understand it from context, although “That’s great!” is more typical in everyday US English.
