“I’ll Chase It Up” Means “I’ll Follow It Up”

In an Australian workplace, “I’ll chase it up” commonly means “I’ll check what is happening” or “I’ll prompt someone to deal with it”. Nobody is literally pursuing an object. Chase up suggests active, persistent enquiry, and the expression is also common in British English.

With a pronoun, place the object in the middle: chase it up. The more neutral alternative is “I’ll follow up with accounts”. Chase can sound a little insistent.
