What does it really mean when God tells us that His ways are not our ways?

As human beings, we can only view the world through the lens of our so-called culture and intelligence. Obviously, our culture and intelligence are not sufficient to explain everything about the world. In fact, we are so limited that we know almost nothing compared to the vastness of the universe. Even according to quantum mechanics, it’s not feasible to explain the world solely through human rationality. Therefore, we must admit that there may be other ways to govern and understand the world. Interestingly, the very words “govern” and “explain” are themselves products of our human knowledge and culture. God may not operate in the way we describe.

So I often wonder whether I’m a Christian—not a pure one, certainly—but I have to leave ample room for what I do not yet understand. As long as I continue living in a secular way, the rest of my life should be fine, just as most people would expect.

Now the only question left is: what does it mean when we are dying? I believe Christians care deeply about this. That’s why I find it hard to become a true follower of God—because I don’t worry much about my own death.

The Bible seems to rest on an assumed premise—that everyone cares deeply about death. But in my case, I honestly don’t think much about it. That doesn’t mean I have no attachments, no burdens, or no dreams; it simply means I take a lighter view of death. Of course, I hope to live to 100, and I’ve been adjusting my lifestyle in the healthiest way possible. That’s another topic.
