
“On seeing good, move towards it; having faults, correct them” comes from the Commentary on the Images for Yi, or Increase, in the Book of Changes. The full context says: “Wind and thunder: Increase. Thus the noble person moves towards good when seeing it, and corrects faults when having them.” Here, “move” means actively changing one's conduct towards a better example; “correct” requires more than admitting an error.
Increase is therefore not merely the passive acquisition of benefits. It includes deliberate revision. Read today, the sentence calls for two kinds of openness: another person's strength may change how I act, and my own mistake need not become an identity I must defend.
