澳洲公共图书馆卡怎样借电子书和有声书? / How Do You Borrow Ebooks and Audiobooks with a Public Library Card?

A public library card is not only for printed books. Most NSW council libraries and Libraries ACT provide ebooks, eaudiobooks and other digital resources. Start from your library’s official page, because platforms, collections and loan limits differ.

From zero to playback

  1. Join the library: obtain a membership number or barcode and set a PIN or passphrase.
  2. Open Digital Resources: do not begin with a random app search; first see which platforms your library supports.
  3. Install the right app: some NSW libraries use BorrowBox, Libby or Indyreads, but your network may not offer all of them.
  4. Select the library: choose the exact library network, then enter the card number and PIN.
  5. Borrow or place a hold: join the queue when no copy is available, then claim it within the notification window.
  6. Download offline: use Wi-Fi before leaving and test headphones, playback speed and the sleep timer.

Quick troubleshooting

The library is not listed
Search for the council library network rather than the suburb branch.
The password fails
The catalogue credential and app account may differ; reset through the official login page.
A title appears in one app only
Platforms license different collections, so search across those your library provides.
What happens at expiry?
Digital loans generally expire automatically without a traditional overdue fine. Renewal depends on platform rules and holds.

Practical NSW and ACT entry points

City of Sydney’s official guides list its ebook and eaudio platforms and login steps, providing one NSW council-library example; other councils have their own pages. Libraries ACT’s eLibrary groups ebooks, eaudio, film, music, learning and reference tools in its official digital-resources gateway.

High-value habit: join every library network for which you are eligible, keep a reading list, and check free library holdings before buying a commercial subscription or individual title.
