多巴胺不是“快乐物质” / Dopamine Is Not the “Happiness Chemical”

Calling dopamine the “happiness chemical” is like calling a transport network the “arrival chemical”. It captures one outcome while hiding prediction, learning, action and distinct neural pathways.

A better simplified model

Cue → expectation → action → outcome → updated prediction

Dopamine participates in motivation, reinforcement learning, reward prediction and movement, among other functions. Some pathways help the brain learn what is worth pursuing again. That does not make dopamine identical to pleasure, and more is not automatically better.

Rewrite three popular claims

“I scroll because I lack dopamine.”
A better account is that cues, variable rewards and habit learning repeatedly reinforce reaching for the phone. Behaviour alone cannot reveal a chemical deficiency.
“I need a dopamine detox.”
You cannot and should not remove dopamine from your brain. The useful intervention is to reduce frequent cues, add friction and retrain attention and habits.
“Everything enjoyable raises dopamine.”
Pleasure involves multiple brain systems, transmitters, bodily states and contexts. Wanting, learning and liking interact, but they are not identical processes.

Turn neuroscience into practical design

  • Disable unnecessary notifications so cues are not constantly present.
  • Make a desired behaviour easier to start—for example, put a book where the phone normally sits.
  • Track cue, action and outcome instead of explaining everything as “dopamine out of control”.
  • If a behaviour feels uncontrollable, causes harm or accompanies other psychological symptoms, seek assessment rather than making a neurochemical diagnosis yourself.

This is a neuroscience explainer. It cannot determine whether an individual has “low dopamine”, addiction or another condition.
