Xinference 4.2.0 expands cross-engine caching and rolling model reloads

The Xinference project released version 4.2.0 on 7 November 2026. GitHub records the release at 13:07 UTC, and PyPI published both a source archive and a universal Python wheel for 4.2.0 on the same date. Compared with version 4.1.0, released on 25 October, 4.2.0 extends Xavier prefix-cache sharing across replicas running vLLM, SGLang, TensorRT-LLM and MLX, and adds Mooncake Store as an LMCache storage backend. The project says KV prefixes can receive higher retention priority while an agent waits for a tool result, reducing repeated prefill when the agent resumes. This is a developer description of the mechanism; no public independent reproduction of the release-specific throughput or cost effect is available.

The deployment lifecycle has also changed in verifiable ways. Administrators can check for and install Xinference updates from the Web UI. Supported vLLM and SGLang deployments can retain GPU weights and reload a model one replica at a time while requests already running on the previous engine instance finish. Runtime and configuration restrictions apply, so the capability does not cover every engine, model or topology. Project documentation states that, from v4.2.0, all four engine families can use LMCache history on the prefill side. Cross-machine deployments still require reachable addresses, matching runtime dependencies and a fixed prefill/decode topology; some hybrid or recurrent-attention models do not support history caching.

Version 4.2.0 also exposes native reasoning-effort controls for supported models through compatible APIs and the Web UI, adds a thinking budget on compatible runtimes, and uses a common request-priority parameter across LLM engines. For model support, the release adds concurrent Qwen3-ASR real-time speech recognition and streaming Qwen3-TTS CustomVoice synthesis through vLLM, llama.cpp support for DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017, and integrations for several OCR models. The release record and documentation confirm these interfaces and support conditions. Independent public validation of accuracy, concurrency performance and cache savings for this version is not yet available. PyPI confirms that 4.2.0 requires Python 3.10 or later and uses the Apache-2.0 licence; the distribution files do not include provenance metadata.
