SpaceX closes US$40 billion in debt financing for GPUs
On 25 October, Elon Musk confirmed on X that SpaceX had closed US$40 billion in debt financing to purchase GPUs. He described it as primarily callable debt, said the GPUs were expected to arrive in the first and second quarters of 2027, and said the financing would not be a major factor for SpaceX in the fourth quarter of 2026. Reuters reported and checked the public confirmation at 20:05 UTC on 25 October.
The new fact is that the financing has closed. On 6 October, Reuters had reported, citing two people familiar with the matter, that SpaceX was in talks with banks and asset managers to raise US$40 billion for Nvidia AI chips. The proposed structure was approximately US$10 billion in bank loans and US$30 billion in investment-grade debt, and the transaction was still under discussion. The 25 October confirmation advances the status from proposed financing to completed financing, but does not reconfirm the earlier loan-and-bond split or disclose the final lenders, interest rates, maturities, security arrangements, specific GPU models, quantities, data-centre locations, associated power capacity or commissioning dates.
This item records only the closed financing and expected delivery window. The GPUs have not yet arrived, the purchase volume cannot be calculated directly from the financing amount, and the compute clusters cannot be treated as built or operational. The US$40 billion amount and first- and second-quarter delivery timing come from Musk’s first-party statement; Reuters independently reported both the latest confirmation and the earlier negotiating status involving Nvidia chips. No technical filing has been published that would independently verify hardware delivery or operating capacity.
