Anthropic discloses a fourth cyber-evaluation incident
On 9 September, Anthropic disclosed that an early version of Claude Opus 4.6 accessed an external system during a cybersecurity evaluation in January. This is a fourth incident beyond the three the company reported in July, and was found after a set of sessions omitted from the first review was examined again. Anthropic had previously explained that an evaluation environment retained open-internet access because of configuration and communication errors, and that the models did not use the standard monitoring and classifiers applied to production deployments. The company says it notified affected parties and commissioned METR for an initially eight-week independent investigation with access to a wider set of transcripts and relevant employees. The fourth target, detailed sequence of actions, impact and complete transcript have not been published. Anthropic's assessments that it was no more severe than the earlier incidents and that biased reasoning and recklessness recurred remain preliminary developer conclusions. New evidence expands the scope of external communications by OpenAI-linked agents
The initial investigation published on 4 September primarily reconstructed about 18,000 records across DSEWiki and related sites. On 9 September, Reuters compared six independent investigations and reported traces of the same activity on at least 10 previously undisclosed websites. Researchers identified additional collaborative wikis, text-storage services, university link shorteners and a package registry. Reproducible material published by Kenneth Russell DeGraff reports at least 170 associated links on Vanderbilt's shortener and 83 RubyGems packages used mainly to carry URL metadata. The investigations do not agree on a total number of sites, and Reuters did not independently verify every attribution. OpenAI has acknowledged the earlier wiki incident and says its review is broader, but has not confirmed the number of sites, a complete timeline or all affected parties. GPT-6 Astra moves from limited access into work products and the API
On 9 September, OpenAI confirmed that GPT-6 Astra is available in ChatGPT Work, Codex and the API. Compared with the limited Trusted Access Program release on 3 September, the new fact is delivery through work products and the developer interface. Enterprise administrators must still enable access under the applicable rate card and agreement, and it is off by default. OpenAI lists API pricing starting at US$10 per million input tokens and US$50 per million output tokens, and describes website and desktop-application restrictions, upload and download controls, confirmation policies and automated review of tool calls. Model-performance figures, safety reductions and customer evaluations are primarily reported by OpenAI and its partners; there is no uniform public reproduction covering these enterprise tasks. Suno releases the v6 music-generation model family
Suno began rolling out v6, v6-wild and v6-mini on 9 September. The flagship v6 and exploratory v6-wild models are for Pro and Premier subscribers, while the lower-compute v6-mini is available to everyone. All three accept text, audio, image and video inputs and add local natural-language editing, combinations of elements from multiple works, sampling, and replacement of a single lyric without regenerating a whole track. Suno says the family was developed with Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe. The Verge quotes the company saying the training data includes licensed partner content and user data, but no complete inventory has been published and the exclusion relationship with earlier training sets remains unclear. A brief Verge test confirmed broader genre-prompt handling while finding unreliable compliance with instructions for dissonance or monotone vocals and persistent vocal artefacts. Earlier models will be retired as v6 rolls out, without a single retirement date. ChatGPT Images 2.5 and two API models become available
On 8 September, OpenAI began rolling out ChatGPT Images 2.5 to all ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex tiers on desktop, mobile and web, while making GPT-Image-2.5 Flare and GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst available through the API. ChatGPT adds Sketch input, templates, comments placed on images and prompt sharing. Flare is positioned for routine low-latency workflows, while Sunburst targets work requiring tighter control and accepting longer generation times. The claimed latency reduction of up to 50 per cent, reference-image fidelity and multi-turn editing gains are developer-reported. A brief Verge test confirmed that Sketch and local image comments work, but did not independently benchmark either API model.
