This observation covers roughly 22:00 on 30 August to 22:00 on 31 August 2026 in Australia/Sydney. It includes two publicly available and verifiable technical changes: the release of OpenClaw 2.0 and EuroHPC's signing of the LUMI-AI supercomputer procurement contract.
OpenClaw 2.0 brings session storage and remote execution into a public release
OpenClaw publicly released v2026.8.1 on 31 August and describes it as OpenClaw 2.0. The GitHub release page records a signed tag published at 03:30 that day. The project also made source code, an npm package, and signed and notarised macOS ZIP and DMG files available. In place of the earlier file-based approach to sessions and transcripts, the release migrates session metadata and transcripts to SQLite. The official documentation requires a verified backup before upgrading. Sessions created after migration are not visible to an older build, and downgrading requires the current command-line tool to restore legacy transcript artefacts. The change is therefore a data migration with defined rollback requirements, rather than only a change in storage format.
The release also extends sessions beyond a single Gateway to paired devices and cloud workers, allowing tasks to reuse warm machines and seeded project environments. It adds durable progress cards, structured questions, interactive components and dashboards, together with more specific permissions for private credential requests, recurring automations and session operations. The documentation preserves several limits. Team roles are collaboration controls, not isolation for mutually hostile tenants. Incognito sessions may retain records only in process memory, but the model provider still receives messages and tools can still write data to external systems. The published startup-time improvements are developer measurements from a mocked environment; no broad independent reproduction across deployment conditions is available. Help Net Security independently checked the release, SQLite migration and permission changes while retaining these security and privacy qualifications.
EuroHPC signs the LUMI-AI supercomputer procurement contract
On 31 August, the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking, EuroHPC, signed a contract with French state-owned Bull to deploy the LUMI-AI supercomputer at CSC's data centre in Kajaani, Finland. The €387.8 million contract covers acquisition, delivery, installation and maintenance. Half is funded by EuroHPC through the Digital Europe Programme, with the other half funded by a consortium comprising Finland, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Norway and Poland. Compared with the earlier site selection and procurement process, the new fact is that the supplier, financing and main technology stack are now under a signed contract. The system has not yet been built or placed in operation.
EuroHPC confirms that LUMI-AI will use AMD Instinct MI430X GPUs and sixth-generation, 256-core AMD EPYC processors. Reuters independently verified the contract and reported that IBM and Nokia will supply the storage and networking components respectively. EuroHPC expects the system to provide about ten times the AI capacity of the current LUMI. This figure is the procurer's expectation for a system yet to be built, not a measured operational result. The official release says installation and user access are planned for 2027, while Reuters specifies the second half of 2027. The contract announcement does not disclose the total GPU count, final AI performance or storage capacity, so those figures cannot yet be treated as confirmed delivery specifications.
