I read the first half carefully, but only skimmed through the second half. So strictly speaking, this isn\u2019t a full book review\u2014more like some rough reflections from a partial reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1 wp-block-paragraph\">The book contains many fascinating case studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1 wp-block-paragraph\">One case describes a woman who was born with severe damage to one half of her brain. According to traditional medical views, people like her would be expected to lead severely impaired lives. But her family refused to give up. Through long-term training and stimulation, the other half of her brain gradually took over functions such as language and motor control. Eventually, she was able to attend university, engage in social life, and live almost like a normal person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1 wp-block-paragraph\">There are many such cases in the book, showing that certain brain functions are not permanently fixed to specific regions. When one region is damaged, other parts of the brain can develop the same functions. Medical scans even revealed that the damaged region itself had not recovered\u2014yet the person regained function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1 wp-block-paragraph\">This shows just how complex human beings are. Yet, we often view the world and others around us through lazy habits, comforting perspectives, and fixed mental models. When we do that, we may be completely wrong without even realizing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1 wp-block-paragraph\">There is a phrase in Chinese: \u201cunable to extricate oneself.\u201d It means that sometimes we need an external force to break our internal balance\u2014to trigger a sudden transformation or leap in a closed system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1 wp-block-paragraph\">Reading an excellent book or engaging with a great mind can have that transformative effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1 wp-block-paragraph\">This is an outstanding book, and the author is remarkable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1 wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, I wasn\u2019t able to find a Chinese edition.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u8fd9\u672c\u4e66\u6211\u6ca1\u6709\u8ba4\u771f\u8bfb\u5b8c\uff0c\u524d\u534a\u6bb5\u8bfb\u5f97\u5f88\u8ba4\u771f\uff0c\u540e\u534a\u6bb5\u5927\u81f4\u6d4f\u89c8\u4e86\u4e00\u4e0b\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u4e25\u683c\u6765\u8bf4\u4e0d\u662f\u8bfb\u540e\u611f\uff0c\u7b97\u662f\u7c97\u8bfb\u4f53\u4f1a\u5427\u3002 \u8fd9\u672c\u4e66\u6709\u5f88\u591a\u6709\u8da3\u7684\u6848\u4f8b\u3002 \u4e00\u4f4d\u51fa\u751f\u65f6\u5927\u8111\u4e00\u534a\u4e25\u91cd\u53d7\u635f\u7684\u5973\u6027\uff0c\u6309\u4f20\u7edf\u533b\u5b66\u89c2\u70b9\uff0c\u8fd9\u7c7b\u4eba\u57fa\u672c\u65e0\u6cd5\u62e5\u6709\u6b63\u5e38\u751f\u6d3b\u3002\u4f46\u5979\u7684\u5bb6\u4eba\u4e0d\u613f\u653e\u5f03\uff0c\u901a\u8fc7\u957f\u65f6\u95f4\u7684\u8bad\u7ec3\u548c\u523a\u6fc0\uff0c\u5927\u8111\u7684\u53e6\u4e00\u534a\u9010\u6e10\u627f\u62c5\u8d77\u4e86\u8bed\u8a00\u3001\u8fd0\u52a8\u7b49\u590d\u6742\u529f\u80fd\uff0c\u6700\u540e\u5979\u53ef\u4ee5\u4e0a\u5927\u5b66\u3001\u53c2\u4e0e\u793e\u4ea4\uff0c\u51e0\u4e4e\u548c\u6b63\u5e38\u4eba\u4e00\u6837\u3002\u8fd9\u79cd\u6848\u4f8b\u975e\u5e38\u591a\uff0c\u8bf4\u660e\u5927\u8111\u7684\u67d0\u79cd\u529f\u80fd\u5e76\u4e0d\u662f\u56fa\u5b9a\u5728\u67d0\u4e2a\u533a\u57df\u7684\uff0c\u5f53\u8fd9\u4e2a\u533a\u57df\u53d7\u635f\u7684\u65f6\u5019\uff0c\u4f1a\u5728\u5176\u4ed6\u533a\u57df\u53d1\u5c55\u51fa\u540c\u6837\u7684\u529f\u80fd\u3002\u68c0\u67e5\u53d1\u73b0\u6765\u53d7\u635f\u7684\u533a\u57df\u5e76\u6ca1\u6709\u6062\u590d\u3002 \u6211\u4eec\u5e38\u8bf4\u7528\u811a\u8dbe\u5934\u60f3\u4e00\u4e0b\uff0c\u4e5f\u8bb8\u6709\u671d\u4e00\u65e5\u811a\u8dbe\u5934\u771f\u7684\u4f1a\u601d\u8003\u3002\ufffc \u53ef\u89c1\u4eba\u662f\u591a\u4e48\u7684\u590d\u6742\u3002\u53ef\u662f\u6211\u4eec\u7ecf\u5e38\u7528\u5077\u61d2\u7684\u65b9\u5f0f\u3001\u8ba9\u81ea\u5df1\u611f\u5230\u8212\u670d\u7684\u65b9\u5f0f\u3001\u5df2\u7ecf\u5f62\u6210\u7684\u56fa\u5b9a\u6a21\u5f0f\u770b\u5f85\u5468\u56f4\u7684\u4eba\u548c\u4e8b\u3002\u8fd9\u65f6\u5019\u6211\u4eec\u53ef\u80fd\u5df2\u7ecf\u9519\u5f97\u79bb\u8c31\u4e86\uff0c\u81ea\u5df1\u5374\u6d51\u7136\u4e0d\u77e5\u3002 \u6709\u4e00\u4e2a\u8bcd\u53eb\u4e0d\u80fd\u81ea\u62d4\uff0c\u610f\u601d\u5c31\u662f\u8bf4\u5fc5\u987b\u501f\u7740\u5916\u529b\u6765\u6253\u7834\u81ea\u8eab\u7684\u5e73\u8861\uff0c\u5b9e\u73b0\u5c01\u95ed\u7cfb\u7edf\u7684\u7a81\u53d8\u548c\u8dc3\u8fc1\u3002 \u8bfb\u4f18\u79c0\u7684\u4e66\u4e0e\u4f18\u79c0\u7684\u4eba\u5bf9\u8bdd\uff0c\u5c31\u6709\u8fd9\u79cd\u5947\u6548\u3002\u8fd9\u672c\u4e66\u975e\u5e38\u4f18\u79c0\uff0c\u4f5c\u8005\u4e5f\u975e\u5e38\u4f18\u79c0\u3002\u53ef\u60dc\u6211\u6ca1\u6709\u627e\u5230\u4e2d\u6587\u7248\u7684\u3002 I didn\u2019t read this book thoroughly from beginning to end.
