Rather, through phenomenological reduction (ph\u00e4nomenologische Reduktion), he aims to return to the pure field of experience within consciousness \u2014 an investigation of how consciousness bestows meaning upon existence without presupposing any external reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Philosophy\u2019s task, therefore, is not the accumulation of knowledge, but the tracing back of all knowledge to its transcendental conditions of possibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Husserl argues that modern science, despite its dazzling successes, has forgotten its own source of meaning. Science pursues objectivity while overlooking the question of how the subject constitutes the objective world.
