Isn\u2019t this a contradiction?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He frames this as an antinomy of taste:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Thesis: Aesthetic judgments cannot be based on concepts \u2192 therefore they are subjective.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Antithesis: Aesthetic judgments demand universal assent \u2192 therefore they are objective.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This appears irreconcilable: either beauty is mere private liking, or beauty is like scientific truth.
