The emphasis on freedom and choice is deeply valuable and inspiring for modern life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I do not agree with Sartre\u2019s existentialist philosophy, especially as presented in Being and Nothingness. In trying to turn existentialism into a systematic philosophy, Sartre actually weakened its original power. For example, he avoided the term \u201cconsciousness\u201d and instead used technical terms like \u201cbeing-for-itself,\u201d which only made the discussion more complicated and confusing. His treatment of time also felt superficial\u2014closer to a psychological description than a profound philosophical analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Existentialism should be a stance, an attitude toward life, not a self-enclosed philosophical system. Sartre\u2019s drive to build a grand system drained existentialism of its clarity and force.
